Dr. Kurt Campbell, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, secretary general for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), top the growing list of speakers at the Hong Kong International Media Conference April 25-28.
Join the Asia Pacific Center for Journalists and the Journalism and Media Studies Centre at the University of Hong Kong for the East-West Center’s second biennial international media conference, “Reporting New Realities in Asia and the Pacific.” One of the largest media events in the region, the conference will look at key issues through speakers and panels of journalists and other professionals.

Program tracks include China, regional trade and economy, Obama diplomacy in Asia and leadership throughout the region, environmental and health challenges, and media issues and workshops. All tracks will include a special focus on new and sustainable models for the future.
Participants can build new networks and information sources among an anticipated 200-plus journalists and other professionals from the United States and countries throughout Asia and the Pacific. Participants can also sign up for a pre-conference study tour to southern China and a post-conference excursion that will examine important issues in Hong Kong.

- Mr. Sanjaya Baru, editor, Business Standard, India’s leading business newspaper, and former media adviser to India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
- Mr. Joshua Benton, director, Nieman Journalism Lab, Harvard University, who works with the Harvard Business School to explore new business models for the journalism industry in the Internet age while maintaining quality journalism
